In his song, "The Prayer", Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, otherwise known as Kid Cudi, sings about how he would like to be remembered by his audience and tells about what it is that he stands for. What I think is kind of weird about the fact that this is a song by Kid Cudi, is that he really isn't even a very well known rapper yet. He had one really big hit single back in 2008 titled "Day N' Night" but since then has yet to top the charts. The song featured in my blog, is just another song of his I came across as a suggestion from Youtube one day. I believe this song is titled as is because of the chorus and how it is similar to a popular children's prayer titled, "Evening Prayer". I think that just from this alone, we are able to see that the song is a message from the artist telling of how he would want to be remembered once he's gone. In part of the song Cudi states, "...if I die today the last thing you remember won't be about some apple bottom jeans with the boots with the fur", implying that what he sings about is real to him and not something made up just to get a few more fans, like, as suggested by the lyrics, fellow singer, Flo-Rida. He sings about how his lyrics are about things that are close to his heart and assures his audience that it really doesnt matter to him if you like his music or not, as long as he knows that what he sings about is real and relevant to him, then that's all that matters. The song makes me have more respect for him as a person. It's melody is something that gives me a feeling of sadness though. I think this might be just because of the prayer that is incorporated into the songs lyrics and it makes me think of a sad occasion; something that could be seen as a suicide letter almost. Overall though...it's a good song...
In this blog I'd like to discuss some of my favorite R&B and Hip-Hop songs played by some very well known artists such as Drake, Usher, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Destiny's Child, etc and also some up and coming artists who I am discovering once in a while.

Huge Cudi fan myself, and this is why i have always been a fan is because his music is about real shit. Not the same ol rap game stuff. Something outside the lines of Pussy Money Weed. haha
ReplyDeleteI love Kid Cudi and this song just reminds me why i love him so much. He is so real and not a lot of rappers out there these days can say they talk about real things.
ReplyDeleteTalk about not well-known yet, if I recall this song even came out at the same time/on the same mix-tape as Day & Night. If you like this kind of Cudi, you should really check out that mix-tape (A Kid Named Cudi, sites like datpiff.com should have it), as it has some similar stuff on it.
